We have a number of horses at the moment in need of sponsorship. Most of these need permanent sponsorship however a few will need help for 3 - 6 months whilst they complete training, recover from injuries and improve their general condition. After this time they will become available for adoption into new permanent homes.
To sponsor a horse each month would cost $140. This covers food, farrier, worming and yearly vaccination boosters. Hello, my name is Charlie. I am a 19 year old quarter horse. I was used to herd and rope cattle on a ranch in Dallas, Texas until due to my excessive work load I damaged all 4 fetlock joints and was sent to an auction as I was no longer any use. For the past 5 years I have been passed from owner to owner, from auction to auction until I was purchased finally at an auction in Bakersfield, California by Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue. In the auction ring they recognized that I was in pain being ridden and managed to raise the $500 it took to rescue me. I will be here for the rest of my life in my own paddock with my best friend Mattisse. I would be very pleased if you will sponsor me.

Hello, my name is Mattisse. I am a 26 year old Arabian/Quarter horse. I was rescued by Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue from an Auction in San Bernardino County. I had been through 3 auctions in 10 days as when people found out how old I was and that I kept tripping over when I trotted they just sent me right back to the next auction. They did not even bother to remove the glue from various parts of my body where my auction numbers had been. I love my life here at Castleton Ranch and hope that someone will want to help by sponsoring my feed or farrier bills. I will stay here with my best friend Charlie forever but we just need a little help. Please sponsor me.

Hello my name is Teddy Bear. I too was rescued from an auction by Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue. I am a Standardbred that had been racing in Canada. I won over $200K for my owners but that meant nothing when I could no longer win due to my handlers winding me. This meant I would make a roaring noise when I was breathing due to a paralysis in my lyrinx that would affect my breathing during a race. To make my life outside of harness racing even harder, I am what is known as a Pacer. I cannot lope or trot correctly and thus would be no use to even light trail riding. Not many people require a horse that can only walk everywhere making a loud snoring noise. I am a permanent resident here and and I am looking to you to help with my feed and farrier costs. Thank you for reading my story.

Hello my name is Kitty and I am a 14 year old quarter horse mare. I am a permanent resident here at Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue and I am hoping that someone would like to sponsor me. When I was a weanling some nasty people tried to teach me to lead by tieing me to the back of a truck and driving away. As a result both my front knees set out of alignment and it is difficult for me to walk. I have to have permanent stable rest and corrective shoes. Unfortunately I cannot even be adopted out as a pasture pal. I would be very grateful if you will sponsor me so that we can rescue more horses that are in great need.

Hello, my name is Melody and I am 7 year's old. I was rescued by Castleton Ranch from an auction. I had received a bad injury to one of my fetlock's which had gone untreated by my previous owner. As a result of this, the injury got much worse and the joint had swollen to three times the size and was rock hard. I had a great deal of difficulty walking properly and I would certainly have faced an uncertain future. Happily, since my arrival at Castleton Ranch, my situation has improved dramatically. I have been receiving regular massage therapy to my injured joint and my back which also sustained damage due to the time spent compensating for my lameness, now the swelling on the joint is reducing slowly. I also wear easy boots sometime which helps alot with my front feet which can get quite sore. I would be very grateful if you will sponsor me.

Hello my name is Quincy. I am a 5 year old Arabian gelding. When I was found by Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue it was obvious to anyone that I had been the victim of abuse. I was 400lbs underweight and showed many signs of physical neglect. I was also terrified of people. It was only when I arrived at the rescue that it was discovered that I was completely blind in one eye and could only see with 50% vision in the other eye. I am a permanent resident here at Castleton Ranch and I would be very grateful if you would like to sponsor me.
Quincy is being sponsored by Nikki Perryman of Southern California.
Thank you Nikki

Hello my name is Elliot. I am a 19 year old Purebred Arabian gelding and a grandson of Bask. I was given to Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue as I could no longer do my job as a riding school horse due to injury to my back. Luckily for me my owner took the time to find a permanent retirement place for me instead of sending me to auction or worse. I am extremely cute and have the loudest whinney in California. I have a great life here where I get to play out everyday with my new friends. I hope that there is someone out there who would like to sponsor me. From Elliot.

Hello my name is Madeline. I am a 16 year old Thoroughbred mare. I have been a brood mare for many years and have decided to retire from motherhood and live happily ever after at Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue. I have never been broke to ride due to an old injury when I was young and I don't think it would be a good idea to start learning again at my age. I would really like you to sponsor me so that the folks here can go and rescue more horses. Many thanks, Madeline.

Hello my name is Gallant. I am a 9 year old Thoroughbred who had to end my racing career due to tendon injuries. I will be here at Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue for about 1 year whilst I rest for a while to allow my injuries time to heal. I will then begin retraining to be a quiet trail horse. I would be very grateful if you would sponsor me so that we can rescue more of my friends from the race track when they can no longer race.
